Peter Maness: Bassist

Peter Maness began playing electric bass in middle school and then switched to Double Bass at 18 as he became more immersed in Jazz. He quickly began working in his hometown of Greensboro, NC and continued to do so until his graduation from Guilford College in 2000 with degrees in both Music and Spanish. For the next three years he made a foray into the realm of education, teaching high school Spanish. In 2003 he enrolled in the Miles Davis school of music at UNCG where he furthered his studies for two years. During this time he had the opportunity to perform with guests Ellis Marsalis and Terri Lynn Carrington, as well as perform his arrangement of a Dewey Redman tune with Dewey himself. In July of 2005 Peter moved to NYC to further his career and promptly landed a cruise ship gig with a Jazz trio and singer, which took him to Alaska and Hawaii for 5 months. Currently he resides in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and studies with Ben Street.

Recieved music scholarships at both UNCG and Guilford
Bassist for West End Mambo- NC's premier salsa band for 4 years
Chosen to attend Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead workshop in 2005
Finalist in the International Society of Bassists Bass competition 2005
Performed for 5 months with Zeke Mullins-Lional Hampton's pianist for 20+ years

Peter is proficient with a variety of styles including: Jazz, Blues, Rock, Salsa, Bluegrass, Gypsy Jazz, Singer Songwriter, and Funk. He also plays some Ukulele.
